Mike Cooper, Sr. Holds On and Hangs the Hoops

More often than not, when Mike Cooper, Sr. launches his ’66 Plymouth Satellite at Summit Motorsports Park, it reaches for the sky, and the West Mansfield, Ohio driver chalks that up to a stout suspension setup and a sturdy engine.

The latter, a naturally aspirated big-block Keith Black Hemi which he built with help from Jerry Springer - not that Jerry Springer - stands up to repeated 3800 rpm launches and has helped deliver Cooper through the traps at 9.50 at 145 mph.

Catch Cooper - and the car wearing a Mr. Brick license plate in recognition of his days as a brick-layer - at the 35th Annual Drive Train Specialists Spring Warm-Up, April 16, and the 4th Annual Monster Mopar Weekend, July 29-31, among other events, at Summit Motorsports Park.

“This will be my sixth year running Monster Mopar and my third year running the Spring Warm Up,” said Cooper. “Your track has always hooked so well, and my car loves it. It will be good to be back to the track after a long winter.
