Kids, did you ask your grandparents to go with you on a date?
NORWALK, Ohio – Go to the source to uncover the automotive genius behind the original muscle car movement.
The Wanda AkzoNobel Blue Suede Cruise provides the perfect venue with pristine show cars, roaring racers and a manufacturer midway to pull together your sweet honey of a dream car.
Oh, did we mention the Wanda AkzoNobel Blue Suede Cruise focuses on vehicles from 1972 and earlier?
Pile several generations in the jalopy and check it out July 19-21, 2013 at Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio!
One of the attractions at the Wanda AkzoNobel Blue Suede Cruise is Nostalgia Super Stock.
“The Nostalgia Super Stock movement has been around about 20 years,” said Doug Duell, president of Nostalgia Super Stock. “And the Northern Ohio area is kind of a hot bed for these types of cars.”
Doug Duell expects about 30 Nostalgia Super Stock cars to roll into the staging lanes at the Wanda AkzoNobel Blue Suede Cruise.
“They're exciting '60s big block cars from the start of the muscle car movement,” Doug Duell said, adding there's no formal membership. “We have a loosely formed rules committee. Just show up and race.”
Doug Duell owns an auto dealership, Evansville Kia, in Evansville, Ind., that's been in the family since 1980. He posts the Nostalgia Super Stock drag racing rules on the dealership Website at evansvillekia.com. With questions call Doug Duell at 812-760-7223.
“We work directly with about 10 events a year,” Doug Duell said. “But there are other venues that use our rules.”
For example, the National Muscle Car Association, which hosts an event August 23-25, 2013 at Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio, includes a Nostalgia Super Stock class, Doug Duell said.
“I go to all of their events,” Doug Duell said, adding he kicks up the wheels in a 1964 Plymouth Fury station wagon, the Drag'n Wag'n, originally owned and raced by his father, Dave Duell.
“It's been in the family since 1995,” Doug Duell said. “The car I drive is a replica of a car my dad drove in the '60s. He was a Chrysler sponsored factory racer. We did restore it last year because it had gotten a little long in the tooth as far as restoration.
“It's white with red candy stripes on the roof,” Doug Duell said. “I think the Ram Chargers in the '60s started that.”
Whether racing a Nostalgia Super Stock car or admiring the view, bring the family and make memories at the 2013 Wanda AkzoNobel Blue Suede Cruise July 19-21, 2013 at Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio.
“It's fast fun racing,” Doug Duell said. “So they will get to enjoy the show.”
