TOP FUEL
Top Fuel dragsters are among the fastest-accelerating vehicles in the world! Their supercharged and fuel-injected engines crank out more than 11,000 horsepower and can burn up to fifteen gallons of nitromethane per pass. They can be a handful for the drivers as they reach the finish line in fewer than 3.7 seconds at over 330 mph.
FUNNY CAR
Funny Cars can lay down 3.8-second laps at over 330 mph with help from supercharged and fuel-injected engines, and they can be utterly unpredictable! Rather than relying on transmissions, Funny Cars put power down through their clutch assemblies activated by timers.
PRO STOCK
Pro Stock is a fascinating fan-favorite category! The cars, which slightly resemble production-based cars, have tube chassis, four-link rear suspension, engines with 500 or fewer cubic-inches and electronic fuel-injection flowing spec gasoline. They can make more than 1,300 horsepower and cover the track in just 6.5 seconds at over 210 mph.
PRO STOCK MOTORCYCLE
Super-slick looking Pro Stock Motorcycles feature tube chassis and lightweight bodywork, and can cover the track in 6.8 seconds at more than 195 mph using V-Twin entries from Harley-Davidson, Victory, EBR, and Buell and inline four-cylinder-equipped Suzuki and Kawasaki models. Their riders have a ton of talent on two tires!
NEW ROAD TO THE CHAMPIONSHIP IN PLACE FOR FUELTECH NHRA PRO MOD DRAG RACING SERIES PRESENTED BY TYPE A MOTORSPORTS
A new points system is in place for the FuelTech NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series presented by Type A Motorsports! The Road to the Championship will incorporate a playoff-style competition. The first of 10 overall events in the series began with the 54th annual Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals, March 9-12. The regular season will conclude at the sixth event of the Pro Mod year, the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals at Summit Motorsports Park! The event at Summit Motorsports Park will also feature a points-and-a-half format for the standout competitors in the Pro Mod ranks, meaning the winner of the race will earn 150 points. After the event at Summit Motorsports Park, the top 10 drivers in the points standings, along with those who meet the minimum qualifying requirements at all six regular-season races, will compete in the Road to the Championship over the final four NHRA Pro Mod events of the year in Brainerd, Indianapolis, St. Louis and the finale at the NHRA Nevada Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Those final four races will determine the 2023 world champion in the FuelTech NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series presented by Type A Motorsports, with a points-and-a-half format also in place in Las Vegas.
SPORTSMAN RACING
Hundreds of sportsman racers will show what they are made of and stand out in Top Alcohol Dragster, Top Alcohol Funny Car, Competition Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock Eliminator, Super Comp, Super Gas, Top Sportsman, Top Dragster and Factory Stock Showdown. When they are not on track, they can be found talking with fans about their cars and carefully-chosen combinations, and what compels them to compete on such a high level.
FAN-RACER INTERACTION
One of the many great things about the annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals is that fans can walk the professional and sportsman pit areas to watch the racers and race teams prepare their cars or motorcycles between rounds. It's quite involved and interesting, and frequently, fans get to hear and see engines being fired in the pit area. There are also opportunities to have a photo taken with a racer or get an autograph from a racer.
MISSION #2FAST2TASTY NHRA CHALLENGE
The Mission#2FAST2TASTY NHRA Challenge will take place on Saturday during the two qualifying sessions and in all NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series categories! It will feature the semifinal matchups from the previous race. Saturday’s first qualifying session will include the semifinal rematch. Winners of the semifinal rematch will meet in the final, which will take place as part of Saturday’s final qualifying session. Bonus points will be awarded to the winner (3), runner-up (2) and quickest losing semifinalist (1). These bonus points will be added to a driver’s total points at the start of the Countdown to the Championship playoffs.
FANTASTIC FIREWORKS SHOW
Summit Motorsports Park-style fireworks will close out what is sure to be an exceptionally entertaining day of racing on Friday night at the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals. Watch red, white, blue and other colors fill the sky as patriotic music plays!
