From WinLight Communications:
Gray Motorsports NHRA Pro Stock driver Dave Connolly can't wait to hit the track this weekend at the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals, and it's no wonder. Connolly, driving the charging green Charter Communications Chevrolet Camaro, will finally have the opportunity to race at his home track once more surrounded by friends and family.
"It's always good to go home," said Connolly, who won Pro Stock at the inaugural NHRA event held in Norwalk in 2007 and was victorious in Top Dragster at a division race held at the facility in 2010. "I grew up going to that racetrack, been going since I was 10 years old and before they held national events there. I'm definitely fond of the track, and there is always a comfortable feeling there. We've had a great car lately with our Charter Communications Camaro, so I would say that this is a great place for us to finish this four in a row strong."
Connolly and his fellow Mello Yello Series competitors have been going non stop for the past four weeks, racing on back-to-back-to-back weekends and finishing four in a row this week at the Summit Racing Equipment Nationals.
The Elyria, Ohio-native has been a driving force in his return to full-time racing, earning a start from the pole in Gainesville and bringing home the coveted Wally trophy just two weeks ago at the New England Nationals in Epping, N.H. Now No. 6 in the Pro Stock standings, Connolly is prepared to power his way even higher in the ranks this weekend.
"This has been a real exciting season," he said. "We knew there would be a learning curve at the beginning of this year, but the Gray Motorsports team is improving all the time, and you can see clearly how much horsepower the guys at the shop back in North Carolina have been able to generate. There is a strong work ethic and a sense of dedication that we all appreciate. It's been a lot of fun, and it's great to take on this tough class as a team.
"This weekend in Norwalk we plan to keep making those gains. To be able to do well at my home track would sure mean a lot to me, and I look forward to getting there. I think we all have a growing sense of confidence."
