Summit Racing Equipment was named Sponsor of the Year for 2013 at the Summit Motorsports Park 40th Annual Accel Banquet of Champions, held Jan. 25, 2014, at Kalahari in Sandusky, Ohio.
The company began in 1968 as a one-person, part-time business with its first store opening in 1969 in Akron, Ohio, and in 1992, its headquarters were moved to Tallmadge, Ohio. Later, it opened additional retail stores and distribution centers in Sparks, Nevada and McDonough, Georgia.
Now, as the world’s largest mail-order automotive performance equipment company, drivers of race cars, street cars and trucks know they can call the company, go on its Website or flip through the pages of its thick catalog to find a couple exhaust pieces, a complete engine and everything in between, including transmissions, brakes, fittings, hoses, ignitions and more.
As a major partner of Summit Motorsports Park, its commitment includes youth marketing initiatives like the funding of the Junior Dragster Shootout at Shakedown and helping junior dragster drivers showcase their cars at the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals. It funded the Super 64 and committed to be a presence on the midway at select big events throughout the year and was instrumental in introducing Summit Motorsports Park to potential marketing partners. In addition, the company’s financial backing put into place the inaugural Shakedown at the Summit.
Jim Greeleaf accepted the award for the company.
