Welcome to the Golden Anniversary of Summit Motorsports Park!
NORWALK, Ohio – The Auto Plus Night Under Fire presented by Kelly Services celebrates fifty years of fun packed into one beautiful, thrilling night on Saturday, August 10, 2013 at Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio.
“This is a very special event,” said Bill Bader Jr., president of Summit Motorsports Park. “The track was built and opened in 1963. It closed for about a year. In 1973 my father bought it having never stepped onto a dragstrip.
“It's a special event, especially when family businesses are under siege and facing challenges,” Bill Bader Jr. said. “It should be a celebration for all of us.”
For a year Bill Bader Jr. planned a many-faceted show with old friends racing almost as long as the dragstrip's been open, as well as with youngsters tooling the track for their first season in their Junior Dragsters.
And Bill Bader Jr. included everything that makes us Summit Motorsports Park.
Would you like to meet the stars of the show? We're talking 40 feature drivers, including 15-time Funny Car Champion John Force, his son-in-law Robert Hight, Larry “Spiderman” McBride, Bob Motz, Dan Runte, Randy Moore, Chris Morena, Bubba Blackwell, Tim Chitwood and more!
An autograph session opens the opportunity at 3 p.m. on the Budweiser side of the track in the Chalet Village, which is near the children's playground equipment.
Then find your grandstand seat, because the Parade of Stars fires up the show about 5:30 p.m. on the race track!
After the parade, the Edison High School Charger Marching Band performs a rousing selection of tunes in a special Night Under Fire show!
You'll want to be there to honor the United States of America, and to hear of the heroism of United States Marine Lance Corporal Todd Corbin, the Grand Marshall of the Auto Plus Night Under Fire presented by Kelly Services.
Immediately after unfurling the 60-foot-by-90-foot American Flag and singing “The National Anthem,” the racing shows launch with old time fun of 10 Gassers, youngsters in Junior Dragsters, race cars with cool stories, four Top Fuel Funny Cars, four Jet Dragsters, and Bob Motz in his Jet Kenworth!
The Thrill Show includes a fan race, Harley-Davidson jumper Bubba Blackwell, Disney stuntman Chris Morena, stunt driver Tim Chitwood, and the freestyling Monster Trucks: Dan Runte in the Summit Racing Equipment Bigfoot and Randy Moore in War Wizard.
We plan a half-hour intermission between the thrill show and the final round of match races, for everyone's comfort.
Keep in mind you're coming out to farm country. Our Throttle Town Grille serves the best beef and chicken.
Have you visited the Quarter Mile Clothing Company lately? Since 2013 rolled out the Golden Anniversary season at Summit Motorsports Park, we super stocked the store with shirts, hats, mugs, wheel-shaped cereal bowls, plush Delberts, toy dragsters and many more great gifts to honor fifty years of fun!
We even brought out Norwalk Dragway T-shirts, in blue, tan, military green and red. Whatever happened to your favorite old T-shirt, anyway? Maybe it’s time to break in a new one. Think of all that fun!
Also, event T-shirts from the Auto Plus Night Under Fire presented by Kelly Services provide a happy reminder every time you pull one on!
Next door to the store for a scrumptious treat, check out Wild Willy’s Ice Cream Saloon on the Budweiser midway. It’s known coast to coast: We serve one pound of delicious Velvet ice cream for a buck!
Then back to the track! In the second round of the show, Dan Runte and Randy Moore attempt to break the 100 mph barrier in their Monster Trucks. No Monster Truck ever reached 100 mph in a quarter mile. So these will be “Guiness Book of World Records” attempts. Both seasoned Monster Truck competitors want bragging rights of first and fastest.
After the Jet Dragsters and Bob Motz's Jet Kenworth, the Bader Family Signature Fireworks explode into a spectacular display of lights, color and sound truly worthy of the Golden Anniversary Auto Plus Night Under Fire presented by Kelly Services!
You know what those fireworks are for: Sit back in your grandstand seat, pull your loved ones close and enjoy the view!
After the fireworks, you're invited to join the feature drivers on the race track for autographs and photographs!
Practically speaking, we'll move tens of thousands of people in and out during the Golden Anniversary celebration Auto Plus Night Under Fire presented by Kelly Services on Saturday, August 10, 2013 at Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio.
The parking lot basics include:
* Westbound traffic on Route 18 turns right into Wilson's lot. To leave on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, traffic from Wilson's lot heads north through the Huron County Airport and exits onto U.S. Route 20.
* Eastbound traffic on Route 18 turns right into Linder's lot, and Linder's overflow, and turns left to leave heading west toward Norwalk.
* Handicapped parking, and VIP parking have designated areas at the south end of Wilson's lot on a first come, first served basis. So please approach Summit Motorsports Park headed west on Route 18 so you may turn right into Wilson's lot. When leaving, turn left on Route 18 and head east.
Arrive early. Our local sportsman racers in the Mr. Gasket $53,100 Super Series start time trials at 9 a.m., so the staging lanes begin filling up early. There's plenty of variety to see.
We recommend reserving the rapidly dwindling grandstand seats, camping and lodging in advance, by the way. It's not about us. We want you to have the best time! Call the Summit Motorsports Park office at 419-668-5555, or online click on tickets, or lodging, or event information.
The Night Under Fire began as a special treat for local racers. Now it's a festival for all! And did you know that after the thrill shows and the spectacular fireworks, our sportsman racers kick it in gear, again, with eliminations in their points meet?
The Mr. Gasket $53,100 Super Series classes include Mallory Super Pro, with beautiful dragsters and fast door cars; Mr. Gasket Pro, with mostly door cars; Wiseco Cycle Tech Super Bike, with sleek motorcycles; Accel Sportsman delivered on time by TFC Transportation, with door cars with minor modifications; and Lakewood Stock, with street cars and trucks, our entry level class.
Also, Bear Motorsports Junior Dragsters presented by Wiseco race three classes at most Mr. Gasket $53,100 Super Series points races.
