Whether they're shined up to show or gassed up to go, street rods built in 1972 and earlier will roll into Summit Motorsports Park for the Thirteenth Annual AkzoNobel/ Wanda Blue Suede Cruise, July 18-20.
About 2,000 cars — many with thumping exhaust and trick paint — were featured at the 2013 event, and even more are expected for the 2014 event, which will offer Nostalgia and Gasser races and opportunities to make “Fun Runs” on the track surface and browse items in a manufacturers’ midway from Summit Racing, AkzoNobel/Wanda, Flaming River, Muscle Products and Trick Flow, as well as items from Women’s World vendors.
The Van-Dells will bring a blend of rock-and-roll music to the stage at 8 p.m. Saturday and then fireworks will light the nighttime sky.
“The Blue Suede Cruise is very special in that it’s not a static show where you park your car and sit for three days,” said Bill Bader, Jr. “Street-rodders can actually race down the track.”
Participants who register by Dec. 31 and pay $25 will receive admission for the weekend for themselves, their spouses and their children younger than sixteen, plus a windshield sticker, goodie bag and access to a cookout. After Dec. 31, the cost is $35 and tickets do not include a cookout.
“The 2013 Blue Suede Cruise hosted a record number of street-rodders, nostalgia race cars, people, midway and Women’s World vendors, so I guess we have our work cut out for us in 2014,” said Bader, Jr. “With over 1,000 cars committed already for the 2014 show, our goal is to exceed the 2,000 street-rodders we had this year. This offer will go a long way toward making our goal a reality.”
