Kevin Chess celebrated his first Summit Motorsports Park event win May 4, 2013 in Mr. Gasket Pro in the Mr. Gasket $53,100 Super Series at the dragstrip in Norwalk, Ohio.

The final round scrambled the stats and threw the win light to Chess.

Keith Crippen, North Ridgeville, Ohio owned the tree in his 1989 Mustang with a reaction time margin of 0.017 seconds to 0.063 seconds.

But Kevin Chess, Ashtabula, Ohio won the double breakout battle at the finish line 0.007 seconds under dial compared with 0.035 seconds under dial for Keith Crippen.

An auto body technician at Bonnell’s Collision in Erie, Pa., Kevin Chess raced this tangerine 1979 Chevy Malibu for eight years before a Norwalk win.

It’s a lot of work. I had a lot of help from my family: my wife, Lisa, my father, Clint, and my son, Brendan. It’s been a long time coming.

“I want to thank Bill (Bader Jr., president of Summit Motorsports Park) for putting up an awesome track to race at,” Kevin Chess said. “Bonnell’s helped me with my racing. I’m getting polished up for the Super 64 race in a couple weeks.”

In Mallory Super Pro, Nicholas Akoury, North Olmsted, Ohio shattered darkness of a winless streak in his black, white, yellow, orange and blue Camaro.

“By cutting stellar lights all night long,” Nicholas Akoury said, “and the car was consistent. This was my first win here in 15 years. On Wednesdays I used to win all the time.

“I’ve been racing about 15 years,” Nicholas Akoury said. “I took six years off to raise my two oldest children. I started a business, a pet shop, Neptune’s Corner in Cleveland. We specialize in fish and reptiles.

“This was made possible Jeff Fargo tests a sweet grocery my wife, Nicole, and my buddy Garry Fleenor,” Nicholas Akoury said. “I got acquainted with Garry Fleenor through boats. I’ve known him for a long time. I used to drive for him. This used to be Garry’s car.”

In Accel Sportsman delivered on time by TFC Transportation, 2012 Champion Joe Childs, Bellville, Ohio tooled his red Firebird to a double breakout victory over Chad Moss, Amherst, Ohio in a 1967 Chevelle.

No one in Accel Sportsman claimed the Delivered on Time by TFC Transportation perfect run bonus at the Funny Car Fox Hunt, so for the second Mr. Gasket $53,100 Super Series race on May 4, 2013, the rollover increased the weekly $100 bonus to $200. We'll find out soon if the bonus was claimed, or if it increases to $300 for the next race.

Wiseco Cycle Tech Super Bike winner Rick Poole, Akron, Ohio and his son Austin Poole, 16, Mansfield, Ohio, who rode a motorcycle to the finals in the Lakewood Stock class, ended up one win light short of father-son duo event victories.

SMike and Ryan Wagner enjoy Ryan's rookie season.teven Davenport, Strongsville, Ohio powered a 2006 Silverado to the Lakewood Stock event win.

When Renee Buckley, Rossford, Ohio, tells people her son, Logan, is six, Logan quickly adds, "and a half."

The magnitude of six months means in July of 2014 Logan follows the smokey burnout trail of his dad, Lucas Buckley.

"Next summer he's racing Junior Dragsters," Renee Buckley said.

"Excited about it!" Logan said, holding a Summit Racing Equipment sticker on himself.

In Bear Motorsports Advanced Junior Dragster presented by Wiseco, identical reaction times by Shuyler Turner, Fostoria, Ohio and Frank McCullough, Sheffield Lake, Ohio shoved the decision of the nose-to-nose race to the finish line.

Schuyler Turner crossed the strip 0.008 seconds before Frank McCullough, with Turner winning the elapsed to dial contest with a difference of 0.036 seconds compared with McCullough’s 0.064 seconds.

A better light and a margin of 0.005 seconds between reaction times lifted Zac Gill, Grafton, Ohio above Stephen Crowell, LaGrange, Ohio for Gill’s event win in Bear Motorsports Intermediate Junior Dragster presented by Wiseco.

Only 0.001 seconds separated the reaction times of Simone Walker, Fostoria, Ohio and Allyson Downs, Mansfield, Ohio in Bear Motorsports Novice Junior Dragster presented by Wiseco.

Simone Walker claimed the final round victory at the finish line with a 0.018-second elapsed time compared with Allyson Downs’ 0.062-second buzz down the track.

“This is our first weekend ever,” said Aubrey’s mom, Danielle Collins. Aubrey’s dad, Logan Collins, who works for the City of Westlake, Ohio, sent down early roots in drag racing.

“Logan used to race here when he was a teenager,” Danielle Collins said. “And I’m the spectator. I’m the cheerleader of the team. This car was a track champion for three years straight. It was Lee Newmeyer’s car.

“Aubrey is dedicating all of this weekend to her great uncle,” Danielle Collins said of her uncle, Jamie Woosley, Richmond, Va.. “He was a big racing enthusiast. He was shot and killed trying to collect rent from renters.

“If she doesn’t go rounds, she’s still happy to be here.”
