Dragstrip entertainment lines up wild, hot, huge and fast.
NORWALK, Ohio – The official Golden Anniversary celebration of Summit Motorsports Park on August 10, 2013 at the Auto Plus Night Under Fire presented by Kelly Services pours nitrous into the entertainment lineup.
Think how much Summit Motorsports Park changed in fifty years, and all of the fabulous people who came to play at the dragstrip at 1300 State Route 18 east of Norwalk, Ohio.
What started as a couple of lanes in a farm field for guys to settle their differences and prove their mechanical prowess, developed into a fun magnet for people of all ages.
After fifty years, the Bader family knows how to throw a great party. Can you imagine the size of this bash?
Let’s start with the Bader Family Signature Fireworks.
In the biggest event in the history of Summit Motorsports Park, this will be the most huge, spectacular, outrageous fireworks display we ever blasted off to delight our guests.
You know what those breathtaking bursts of color, light and sound are for: Sit back in your grandstand seat, pull your loved ones close and enjoy the view!
And for this gala, Bill Bader Jr., president of Summit Motorsports Park, assembled the wildest talent lineup ever.
First on the list, driving the Summit Motorsports Park 50th Anniversary Castrol GTX Ford Mustang, the legendary John Force leads the pack of four 325 mph Fuel Funny Cars, which includes Robert Hight in the AAA of Southern California Ford Mustang, Chad Head in the Head Racing Toyota Camry, and Blake Alexander in the Auto Plus Chevrolet Monte Carlo.
Find these stars of the National Hot Rod Association on Facebook.com. Each one has a fascinating story of life at top speed.
Since our Auto Plus Night Under Fire presented by Kelly Services celebrates the new and the old, an historic match race features Ron Hope and the Rat Trap AA Fuel Altered versus Jim Head and his historic Fuel Funny Car.
If it weren’t for the fact that racing keeps you young, the next two would be old favorites at Night Under Fire.
Bob Motz, the King of Quake, wheel walks his flame snorting Jet Kenworth to the starting line, then blasts off for a 220 mph track-sizzling run. Feel the heat!
And Larry “Spiderman” McBride muscles his 1511 cc Suzuki Pingel Top Fuel motorcycle supercharged on nitro-methane to almost 250 mph in a quarter mile.
Check out Larry's story and a video of a race against Tommy Grimes and Ray Price Harley Davidson by clicking on: Bucket list.
Young at heart, Larry “Spiderman” McBride loves kids. They’re the heart of his show. Visit the pits; take photographs; get autographs.
And any kid who popped a wheelie on a bike appreciates the talent of Ed “Desperado” Robinson kicking up a fuss in the Emergency West Wheelstander.
When four 300 mph Jet Dragsters scream into town, who do you cheer to the win?
Sometime this year we expect tiny dynamo Jill Canuso to debut a state-of-the-art 2013 Hanna Motorsports Queen of Diamonds II. Until racing legend Al Hanna releases the experimental new machine, Jill Canuso, Pottstown, Pa., remains at the top of the class in the Queen of Diamonds.
Then Elaine Larsen, pilot of the Larsen Motorsports Decade of Thrills and Miller Welding Jet Dragsters, cuts no slack in her fire-spitting rides. Click on: Larsen Motorsports.
The Beast from the East Jet Dragster looks mean and nasty, but Ernie Bogue, the owner and driver, loves kids and drag racing, in that order.
All the way from Canada, Lou Pereira challenges the other three in his chilling ride, The Terminator Jet Dragster.
So will it be one of the beautiful, talented ladies, or the get-after-them guys?
Back in the day before Funny Cars, AA Gassers defined the edge of dragstrip automotive ingenuity.
So eight historic, period-correct AA Gassers invited to the Auto Plus Night Under Fire presented by Kelly Services fit perfectly our celebration of fifty years of fun.
You’re accustomed to these on-track activities at the Auto Plus Night Under Fire presented by Kelly Services. But the next round of talent launches over the top in the category of cool.
Just when we thought one Monster Truck rumbling down the dragstrip scared us enough, Bill Bader Jr. doubled the thrill for the Golden Anniversary Auto Plus Night Under Fire.
Two Monster Trucks roar down the track in a quarter-mile drag race: Dan Runte in Summit Racing’s “Bigfoot;” against Randy Moore in the “War Wizard.” They’re both gunning for a world record of the first to break the 100 mph barrier in a Monster Truck.
They’re big. They’re bad. But are they that fast?
Naturally this Monster Truck show includes car crushes on the dragstrip, too.
Then Chris Morena, a Disney stuntman, performs the Spectacular Suicide Spiral Car Jump for us. Check out Chris Morena’s and Tim Chitwood's stunts.
In his 70s, Benny “The Bomb” Koske blows himself up in cars, caskets, whatever, and survives. Benny “The Bomb” chose such an off the wall vehicle for the Auto Plus Night Under Fire presented by Kelly Services, even people who aren’t there will talk about this!
With decades of experience, Tim Chitwood from the Famous Chitwood Family, performs automotive stunts live, too.
Watch Bubba Blackwell, a world record Harley-Davidson motorcycle jumper, twirl a motorcycle on the Web by clicking on: What did he just do?
Then experience Bubba Blackwell’s stunts live and in person at the Auto Plus Night Under Fire presented by Kelly Services.
We recommend buying tickets and lodging in advance for this once-in-a-lifetime experience. For information click on: I want to be there!
Also, since this is the 50th Anniversary of Summit Motorsports Park, we’re celebrating all year.
We packed the Quarter Mile Clothing Company on the Budweiser side of the race track with great gifts to commemorate the fun and efforts of so many. Think, “Christmas!” early. And browse often. New items arrive every week.
For example, remember your old favorite Norwalk Dragway T-shirt? Whatever happened to it? We have good news: Blue, tan and military green Norwalk Dragway T-shirts returned, along with 50th Celebration hats, coffee mugs, beer steins and many other snuggly, cuddly fashions.
