NORWALK, Ohio -- A Mr. Gasket Banquet of Champions honoring a season of speed, cunning, generosity and fun begged for a great way for friends and family to relax and enjoy the company January 26, 2013 at Kalahari Resorts in Sandusky, Ohio.
So Trick Flow Specialties stepped in with an after party to blend the old with the new as Summit Motorsports Park embarks on a 2013 Golden Anniversary season.
“It’s a social time just to get to know people,” said Mike Downs, 47, general manager of Trick Flow Specialties, Tallmadge, Ohio.
“We did our first big event at the Halloween Classic this year,” Mike Downs said. “After being there, we thought it made sense to be involved with Summit Motorsports Park.”
“I thought it would be a good way to introduce the Trick Flow brand to Summit Motorsports Park racers,” said Mike Downs.
Though Mike Downs visited the Halloween Classic as a company representative, he just as easily could have hauled his 1990 Mustang to the track and mashed the gas in the Pro class.
A 20-year veteran of dragstrips, Mike Downs also logged quite a few years going rounds on a motorcycle.
So Mike Downs understands pressures in the pits.
“A lot of people who are at the race track don’t have time to spend with a manufacturer,” Mike Downs said. “This is our chance to get to know people.”
Professionally in his current position for two years at Trick Flow Specialties, Mike Downs’ background features experience as an original equipment manufacturer, supplying components to Ford, GM and Chrysler.
“I’ve worked my whole life in manufacturing,” Mike Downs said. “Most of it has been as an automotive OEM supplier.
“I’ve always been involved in drag racing. I’m a drag racer myself,” Mike Downs said. “When I had a chance to get involved in manufacturing performance after market, it was a dream come true.”
