NORWALK, Ohio -- All the best kids come to Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio.
And we know you love spending time with family, especially grandparents.
So why not ask your grandparents out on a date?
This year is the 50th Anniversary of Summit Motorsports Park.
We've been having fun for 50 years! So we planned fun family events to celebrate this year especially!
First, the Funny Car Fox Hunt melts away cabin fever on April 27, 2013.
We can’t wait to rev up the new racing season!
So we invited Jill Canuso and the Queen of Diamonds Jet Dragster from Hanna Motorsports to sizzle the track, along with supercharged Nostalgia Funny Cars.
A fireworks finale caps the whole show!
Wouldn’t you like to snuggle up with a grandparent and watch fireworks?
Also, have you met Jill Canuso? She’s a doll! Tiny Jill Canuso used to drive a Monster Truck; now she speeds at 300 mph in her Jet Dragster.
Come early, visit Jill in the Queen of Diamonds pit, and get her autograph! If you bring a Sharpie pen, she’ll sign your shirt or hat or whatever!
And girls get in FREE to the Funny Car Fox Hunt! Admission for men is $15, and for boys ages 6-12, $5.
There’s an affordable date. Grandma, mom and the girls get in free.
Another great date event celebrates our nation’s birthday as well as our Golden Anniversary: The Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals, part of the Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, July 4-7, 2013 at Summit Motorsports Park.
On Thursday, July 4, 2013, adult admission is $12, and children through age 12 get in FREE!
The best sportsman racers around provide the Thursday show. Visit the pits and collect autographs.
On Friday, July 5, 2013, adult reserved seats cost $42, while reserved seats for children through age 12 are FREE! We recommend calling for tickets in advance because this event is huge.
Have you heard of 15-time Funny Car World Champion John Force, his daughters, Courtney and Brittany, Summit Racing’s Greg Anderson, Top Fuel 2012 Champion Antron Brown, and all of the drag racing stars seen on television?
They race on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Jill Canuso and the Queen of Diamonds return on Friday of the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals, too.
Visit the pits and watch the teams work on race cars. These people know their stuff.
Not only that, but Bill Bader Jr., president of Summit Motorsports Park, and his whole family love fireworks.
The Bader Family Independence Day Fireworks show on Friday night lets you snuggle close to the people you love in the grandstands and enjoy the show!
The next big event, the 12th Annual Wanda AksoNobel Blue Suede Cruise July 19-21, 2013, provides one of our best tips for a date with a grandparent.
Old vehicles from 1972 and earlier headline the show and races with unlimited fun runs.
Here’s a hint: Ask your grandparents what car they used for their first date.
And the cars from back then are fun to see, such as candy colored Hot Rods, Customs, Classics, Muscle Cars and Trick Trucks.
Take these vehicle names to school and Google them to see photos. It’s even better seeing them in person.
Do you like to dress up in costumes? The employees at Summit Motorsports Park wear clothing styles from 1972 and earlier, too.
Some of the guys slick their hair back and wear leather jackets and jeans like The Fonz from “Happy Days” on television.
The girls wear poodle skirts, or bowling team outfits, or bell bottom pants.
It’s a great event for grandparents to remember old times and tell stories.
On Saturday of the Wanda AkzoNobel Blue Suede Cruise, Jay and The Americans perform live in concert.
Listen to songs by Jay and The Americans on the Internet at http://www.jayandtheamericans.net.
There’s a neon parade, a car flame throwing contest and a smokey burnout contest.
Ask Grandpa if he’s ever done a smokey burnout.
Then fireworks! You know what those are for: Snuggle close and enjoy the view!
The Wanda AkzoNobel company helps people paint cars and trucks so they’re beautiful. The company answers questions and offers workshops at the Blue Suede Cruise.
Does your grandpa’s garage hold a special project that could use a sweet paint job?
For the racing, we’re bringing back Nostalgia Drag Racing, including BB Funny Cars, the fastest door slammers, front engine dragsters, and track attack Hot Rods.
Don’t forget your ear plugs. These cars roar.
Sunday features car show judging, fabulous door prizes, and more racing.
Also, the Wanda AkzoNobel Blue Suede Cruise allows Grandma to go shopping at the Women’s World tent; Grandpa might groove at the Car Corral and Swap Meet.
Adult admission at the Wanda AkzoNobel Blue Suede Cruise costs $15, while youth age 15 and younger get in FREE!
Plus, Summit Motorsports Park serves great food at the concession stands.
You can even enjoy dessert. We serve one pound of Velvet Ice Cream for a buck!
Here’s how it could work:
- Ask your parents for permission first.
- Call your grandparents and ask if they would like to go on a date with you. After they fall over from surprise, they probably will say, “Yes!”
- Decide on an event that sounds like fun.
- Did you know kids get in free to many events at Summit Motorsports Park? So depending on your age you may only need to pay for your grandparents’ way into the event, and food and drinks.
- Now you may need your parents’ help, again. Ask if you may do chores to earn money for the date. That way, it’s a gift to your grandparents from you, and you’ll feel great about it.
- Write your date on the calendar and count down the days!
Many other events at Summit Motorsports Park could tickle the fancy of a grandparent for a great date, such as Bear Motorsports Junior Dragsters presented by Wiseco on Saturdays during the Mr. Gasket $50,000 Super Series.

Have a great time!
