Night Under Fire

You've gotta be here... August 10 2013!

It’s our Golden Anniversary and we’ve brought in all the stars to help celebrate our special day during the Auto Plus Night Under Fire, presented by Kelly Services.  

To help kick of this action-packed festivity will be four 330 mile-per Fuel Funny Cars with fan favorite John Force leading the field driving his 50th Anniversary decorated “Castrol GTX” Ford Mustang.  Robert Hight, Chad Head and Blake Alexander will join him and will do their best to give the fan favorite a run for his money.  One of these four drivers will take home the prestigious Norwalk 40th anniversary trophy.  After the fireworks, race fans will be invited to celebrate in the winner’s circle.

Before there were funny cars, there were gassers!  Eight (8) period correct historic AA/Gassers will take race fans down memory lane.  These cars were the most exciting cars to watch back in the day, because they couldn’t travel the quarter mile in a straight line.  Their front axles were high in the air; their rear weight disproportionate and drive tires a hard compound. All these factors contributed to their exciting but ill-handling reputation!  

A fiftieth celebration wouldn’t be complete without a little nostalgia match race, but this race won’t be the norm.  Summit Motorsports Park race fans will be treated to a rare match up where a period correct 69 AA/Fuel Altered ,“Rat Trapp”, driven by Ron Hope will go head to head with a period correct 77’ Fuel Funny Car Firebird driven by Jim Head.  Both racers are legends in their own class and will certainly give the other a ‘run for their money’.  So, whom do you want to see win, the altered or the funny car?  

When you think of the Auto Plus Night Under Fire presented by Kelly Services, one of the first images that come to mind are flames shooting from the after burners of 6,000 horsepower jet dragsters. Jill “Queen of Diamonds” and Elaine Larsen “Embry Riddle” will team up to compete against the men, Ernie Bogue “Beast From the East” and Lou Pereira “Terminator” for a gender battling duel.  The women have been dominating in recent years, but can this tradition continue?

Larry “Spiderman” McBride the world’s fastest man on two wheels will attempt to make history by breaking Summit Motorsports Park’s nitro fuel bike track record, by being the first rider to break the 5-second barrier.  

Spiderman will not be the only one looking to break records.  Two monster trucks, Bigfoot and War Wizard, will each attempt to be the first Monster Truck to run 100 miles-per-hour in the quarter mile.  Afterwards each truck will celebrate this accomplishment with a freestyle car crush on the drag strip!

This golden anniversary party will consist of more than just racing and record-breaking attempts.  Breathe-taking, death-defying stunts will get the fans aroused. World Record Harley-Davidson Motorcycle Jumper Bubba Blackwell will perform a ramp-to-ramp motorcycle jump.  Disney Stuntman Chris Morena will perform a spectacular Suicide Spiral Car Jump.  Tim Chitwood, from the famous Chitwood Family, will perform an automobile thrill show and Benny “The Bomb” Koske will blow himself up in a School Bus.  Reviving an old tradition that has not been seen for a couple of years, Desperado will drive his Emergency West Wheelstander down the quarter mile on two wheels!

Now what could possible send fans over edge? Bob Motz lighting the anniversary cake’s candles!  The legend Bob “King of Quake” Motz will send fans home wanting more as he rolls his famous Jet Kenworth into the water box to start his famous fiery burnout show while “Phantom of the Opera” plays in the background.   As Bob flies through the finish line, the famous $100,000 Bader Signature Fireworks, presented by R&R Auto Body will complete this full day of excitement, thrills, racing and celebration!

Family Primitive Camping
Camping for tents, pop-up, tent or folding camping trailers and Truck Campers.  No generators will be permitted.  Camping spaces are approximately 20' X 50' each.   Campers inside the Family Campgrounds must adhere to "quiet hours".  The campground location is subject to change dependent upon weather and ground conditions.

Scotty's Camping is located just west of the west of the main entrance into the Park, Enter off route 18 (Wilson's Drive).  This campground is for all types of recreational vehicles, including tents.
