Christmas Tree up…… DoneTiming sensors installed…...DoneOrder ET paper…DoneHire summer employees…..DoneHang Sponsor Signs…..DoneHang the American Flags around the track…..DoneBuild concession stand ……DonePurchase Sunoco race fuel…..DoneMark off the swap meet vendor area…..DoneWe’re ready….are you ready for the 31st annual spring warm-up? If not, what are you waiting for? Christmas has already come and gone. Now it’s time to go ‘drag racin’ and time to turn some of your old ‘stuff’ into CASH!
Did you get a lot of new parts for Christmas, but you don’t have a spot on your shelf to store your new possessions because you have too many old things you never use any more? Have you worked on your street rod all winter and now you’ve come to a stand still because you need a specialized part and have not found it yet? If you answered yes to one or both of these questions, Summit Motorsports Park can help! We’re having our annual Spring Warm-up Swap Meet. This is an open swap meet, where one can sell just about anything, new or used. The price to set up is just $35 and it includes two adult admissions and a 20’ x 20’ space. Everything must fit within this space.
You have eleven hours to test and tune your car so you’re ready for the start of the 2012 racing season! This track day is open to EVERYONE and there’s no pressure to win! And it doesn’t matter if you have a stock street legal mustang or an alcohol mustang funny car. This is a fun day to shake off the rust and brush up on your drag racing skills!
Division 3 inspector, Pete Woodruff, will be onsite Saturday, April 21st during the Spring Warm-up to certify your race chassis. Appointments are limited and you will need to contact the office at 419-668-5555 and ask for Nettie at extension 226. To help expedite the process, we ask that the chassis be ready for inspection. This means the body needs to be off or tipped out of the way of the chassis on Altereds, roadsters, Funny cars or Dragsters. Full-bodied cars need to get high enough in the air so Pete can inspect the tubing in the floor area. If this is done ahead of time, the whole process should take about twenty minutes. The Sportsman (blue & silver) chassis tag is valid for three years and the fee is $150. This tag applies to cars (other than Pro Stock) that run 6.00 (3.66) seconds to 9.99 (6.40). SFI Spec 2.4, 2.5, 2.6, 2.7, 10.1, 10.2, 10.3, 10.4, 25.1E, 25.2, 25.3, 25.4, 25.5, or our NHRA Rulebook requirement for Competition Eliminator, Super Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, Super Street (135 + MPH), Advanced ET, TD, TS and ET cars running quicker than 9.99 (6.40).The chassis inspections will take place on the Summit Side of the race track, off SR 18, underneath the Summit Side grandstands. Beginning at 9am.
Each admission ticket includes access into the pit areas and General Admission Parking is FREE!
It’s been a long 5 months without racing. Many of us have been stranded at home driving our spouses or significant others, kids and even our pets crazy! There are only so many episodes of “Two Guys Garage” one can endure! It’s time for our senses to be awakened and who other than Bob Motz, Jill Canuso, and the Geezer Gassers could do it better? Bring your family out to the 29th Annual Mickey Mart Rewards Season Opener, presented by Donald M Graham & Associates for a fun filled night of entertainment!
Entertaining your family can be very expensive these days, but not on opening day at Summit Motorsports Park! A family of four can be entertained at Summit Motorsports Park for less than $50 and that includes a trip to the Ice Cream Saloon! Children 6-12 are just $5 and children five and under are free! Parking is FREE and access into the Racer Pit Areas is FREE!
It has become tradition that Bob Motz be part of Summit Motorsports Park opening day festivities. Come early so you can visit Bob and get his autograph and take some photos of his ’98 jet Kenworth!
By day, Jill Canuso is the marketing director for S&W Race Cars & Components, in her free time she is the “Queen of Diamonds”. Jill, affectionately called” the Little Jiant”, stands just 4-foot-11 tall and she drives one of the most powerful vehicles on the planet, a jet dragster. Don’t let her size fool you, because she’s driven everything from motorcycles to monster trucks to midge cars to jet dragsters. The “Queen of Diamonds” we’ll wow you with her spectacular fire show warm-up and will reach speeds exceeding 300 mph in the quarter mile. She is one “Jiant” you do not want to mess with!
Do you remember when the generation of full-bodied, full-fender, American built cars were the stars of drag racing? Six members of the Geezer Gassers, Randy Addington's ’37 Chevy coupe "Addington's Speed Shop", Jesse James's '40 Willys coupe "The Gunslinger", Bill Caughron's ’48 Anglia "Golden Angel" Randy Tavoletti's '41 Willys coupe "Tavoletti and Gearhart RAcing", Bob Yust's '51 Henry J "Wild Weasel" and Dave Bowen's '52 Chevy "The Screamer", will be bringing some of that nostalgia racing to this year’s opening day and they’ll be on hand to swap stories about “how drag racing used to be” and to sign autographs.
Come celebrate the 6th anniversary of the B’laster Cavalcade of Stars presented by Budweiser.
There is not a stick and ball sport or another form of motorsports that allows race fans the opportunity to enter the “locker room”, but at Summit Motorsports Park we do! Each admission ticket allows race fans access into the racer’s pit area. Fans can watch crew members’ race against the clock, servicing their vehicles before their driver’s next round of competition. And you’ll also have the chance to capture a few autographs and photographs along the way.
Summit Motorsports Park likes to get their fans excited, but more importantly we like to get the fans involved! Friday night qualifying will be one such opportunity. Five fans will be randomly chosen to be part of a panel of judges. The judges will sit next to the race track and score the racers in Stock Eliminator and Super Stock on their ability to perform the best wheel stand during the Friday night qualifying session. If you want to be part of our panel of judges then you need to be here!
The 2011 season was a banner year for Frank Manzo. He not only tied John Force by winning his 15th National Event Title, he also accomplished a major mile stone in racing, by scoring over 200 career wins in his Top Alcohol Funny Car. If that wasn’t enough, he also recorded his career best ET - 5.411 (Reading, PA 2011) and Speed – 268.06 mph (Gainesville, FL 2011). What does Frank have up his sleeve for the 2012 season? Bill Reichert is the owner; he’s the tuner and he’s the driver of the Rislone Top Alcohol Dragster. Nine time divisional champion and 5 time national champion can be found in the pit area wrenching on his hot rod. Stop by Bill’s pit area and watch him and his crew tune his dragster between rounds of competition. Chris Foster made it look very easy when he captured his 2nd Divisional title in three years. He went to three straight divisional finals and all he did to clinch the 2011 Division 3 Top Alcohol Funny Car Title was win one final, which he accomplished at Summit Motorsports Park last July. In writing, it appears his championship was an easy task to accomplish, but in reality it wasn’t. To repeat his 2011 performance, Chris will have his work cut out for him. Marty Thacker is one of the nicest guys you’ll meet at the race track, but when he is in his race car you had better watch out, because the nice guy in him quickly disappears. He’s all business when sitting in the Rapid Transit Top Alcohol Dragster. His dedication and determination has earned him three divisional titles over the years and has given Bill Reichert and the other class competitors a run for their money.

Long before there was a Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio, there was the Fonz, Richie Cunningham, the real Elvis Presley, Doo Wop music and the most unbelievable cars on the planet. Saturday night at the Big Boy Drive-In Restaurant was the original Blue Suede Cruise. Life couldn’t be any better. Think back to those wonderful nights backed into a parking spot, eating a hamburger off a window tray and sucking down a Coke. If you only knew then that the original muscle cars and the ones with the frenched headlights, no door handles and hood louvers cruising past you all night long would still be cruising and be at the AkzoNobel, Wanda "Blue Suede Cruise" presented by PBE Supply at Summit Motorsports Park you could have planned ahead for a lot less money. Those were the days of the firsts. Your first car, your first speeding ticket, your first date and your first………….we’ll leave it at that.
Today there may be no more firsts but the memories are alive and well as Summit Motorsports Park. The Fonz, Cunninghams and Elvis are all gone but the cars and Doo-Wop live on. For the ones with a bit of grey in what hair may be left the Blue Suede Cruise will bring back the greatest times of your lives and for your kids and grandkids it will leave them green with envy looking at what they missed.
Well, we have a secret for all of you below forty. You haven’t missed it yet. Come to the Summit this summer and wrap yourselves in thousands of candy-colored Hot Rods, Customs, Classics, Muscle Cars & Trick Trucks. As a special treat they don’t just sit there. There are unlimited Fun-Runs down the Summit Motorsports Park quarter-mile dragstrip. This is a don’t miss event. We’ll be there, how about you?
Pre-register by December 31st, 2011 and save $10 and receive tickets to the Racer BBQ!

For those of you that have never attended the AkzoNobel, Wanda Blue Suede Cruise let me tell you what your entry buys you at Summit Motorsports Park. Here’s the 30-second tour: Thousands of Hot Rods & Classics on display, Fun Runs all day long on the ¼ mile, Vendors & Exhibitors all over the place, a swap meet, a car corral, the very popular Atomic Age Bazaar and the always packed Women’s World. For entertainment there is the Saturday Night Concert, huge fireworks, flame throwing and the gorgeous Neon Parade of Lights. If you and your family enjoy going to the local cruise-in events you will go nuts at this one. It is by far the Largest Street Rod Event in the Midwest! You deserve it and so does your Hot Rod.
It’s a weekend in Paradise and you are invited.
What is there to do at Summit Motorsports Park after I’ve seen all the cars in the AkzoNobel, Wanda Blue Suede Cruise? You wouldn’t believe how many times we’ve been asked that very question over the years. My answer has always been “This must be your first time here!”
The Blue Suede Cruise is a little bit like a 3-ring circus. There’s always something going on and there’s always something for every member of the family.
There’s the Manufacturers Midway with just about anything your heart desires to turn your Pinto into one of those fire breathing monsters you have spent the day taking pictures of. By the way, should you really happen to have a Pinto, don’t miss the twenty or so brand new looking ones on display. The Swap Meet is designed for those that need that special Widget or Trungeon Bearing for their 1953 Nash Rambler. Most of the collectable stuff you see for sale is high-demand got to have mechanical parts to keep the love of your life on the road.
The Car Corral will accommodate those that want to sell their rolling stock and those who want to buy it. The AkzoNobel, Wanda Blue Suede Cruise at Summit Motorsports Park is a must if you need to pay off the house or if the kids have finally left the nest and there’s room in the driveway for that bright yellow and chrome love of your life that you know will really make the neighbors hate you. I know, you just can’t wait. The Atomic Age Bazaar features all kinds of things from the days of Duck and Cover. The what? OK, try this explanation then. Way back when, the country was afraid of Atomic warfare and for some reason they made really silly things like chrome legs on kitchen tables, weird shaped furniture and pictures by some guy that couldn’t paint a straight line if he had to. They also had real cool hood ornaments, great gas pumps and signs you would sell the kid’s Official Red Ryder Carbine-Action Two-Hundred-Shot Range Model Air Rifle for. What do you mean the little woman won’t come with you? Tell her it’s a Deco display. She will beat you to the car.
Why? Because they deserve a day off too!Who says there’s nothing for the gentler sex to do at Summit Motorsports Park while attending the AkzoNobel, Wanda Blue Suede Cruise presented by PBE Supply? There’s plenty to do, like push the car, watch the kids, push the car, get lunch ready and of course push the car.
There just might be one other little thing to do that I have been told not to make a big deal out of by a lot of the male racers. It will make the ladies very happy and their ‘other half’ very poor. That’s right Ladies, they said it would never be back, it couldn’t come back, it shouldn’t be back……Well, IT’S BACK and it’s bigger than ever. It’s the sensational Summit Motorsports Park Women’s World and it’s going to be a bigger Excellent Adventure than ever before. The tent is huge, the entertainment is you and the vendors are to die for. We have compiled a partial promissory list of who’s going to be there. There’s Jewelry, lots of jewelry – Bling-Bling-Bling and everything that goes with it. How about some Mary Kay and the Pampered Chef just down the block from huge lipstick booths and beautiful home-made candles? Don’t miss the wood working displays and all the craft booths. With everything that’s going on for the entire family there’s no reason not to attend the AkzoNobel Wanda Blue Suede Cruise at Summit Motorsports Park. If you are interested in a booth call Bobbie at 419-668-5555.
The concert takes place Saturday evening at 8pm, followed by a neon parade, flame throwing contest and firework show! The name of the act will be announced soon!

“This was my 5th Night Under Fire and it was awesome. How you put on a fantastic show year after year is short of amazing. My wife and I make it over 2 to 3 times a year. You all run a great facility. We love coming to the track and look forward to it every year. It is truly a fan friendly track.” - Todd Brest
"The fireworks display was beyond compare, it seems to get better each year. There were a lot of young children sitting around me and I had just as much fun watching the smiles on their faces as I did the racing." - Tim Stanislo
"I cannot express how great of an experience we had being there. It was amazing!!! I say that on behalf of us all and we cannot wait to come back again." - Patrice Riedel

Lots of cheering could be heard throughout the race park, as we kicked off our new “Ring of Fire” fire works show with gas bombs and a spray of pyro along the concrete walls of the drag strip, as the Pledge of Allegiance to this great Nation was recite by school age children. We expect more of the same reaction and can’t wait to show you Torch’s “Ring of Fire” creation for this year. All of which should certainly excite the senses!
JOHN FORCENot since the days of ‘Big Daddy’ Don Garlits has there been a drag racer like John Force. He is the most provocative, entertaining and talented member of the NHRA drag racing community of all time. His penchant for meeting as many of his millions of fans as humanly possible has made him the most popular Funny Car driver in the history of the sport.
Bob Motz, the King of Quake, driving a 1998 W 900 Jet Kenworth will be back to shake up the house and to put on a fiery show like you've never seen before!
Larry “Spiderman” McBride (Top Fuel Motorcycle) is the first man to break the 5 second barrier on TWO wheels. He currently holds the ¼ mile ET record at 5.74 seconds at 240 mph. Larry received the “Spiderman” nickname from an NHRA announcer after he witnesses Larry’s unique riding style of ‘crawling’ around to keep the bike in the grove. Jill Canuso (Jet Dragster) may be petite, but don’t let her size fool you….she travels the quarter mile in over 300 mph in 5 seconds! Her competitors call her the “Little Jiant’ but we call her the ‘Queen of Diamonds’.
Driving the “Terminator” jet dragster is none other than Lou Pereira, Canada’s fastest man on four wheels! He and Ernie Bogue will do their best not to allow Elaine Larsen or Jill Canuso out shine them this evening.Ernie Bogue is a well respected Jet Dragster pilot who runs over 300 mph in five seconds. Leaving the Pro-Mod ranks six years ago to play with the fire eaters has proven quite successful with one exception. Living in a house with five girls, his wife and four daughters, the last thing he needs is to be beaten six years in a row by the Queen of Diamonds. Here’s hoping things change. Can you believe the razing he must get when he gets home?
‘Drag Racing the old way’ is the Geezer Gasser motto. To be a member of this elite group, your vehicle must directly resemble as closely as reasonably possible the gas class vehicles of the mid 60’s or the “Gasser Wars” generation. The following drivers will be on site ready to talk about their gassers and the good old days of drag racing and during the show, they will entertain you with their driving skills. Chuck Lipka - ’41 Willys coupe “Little Booger”Randy Addington – 37’ Chevy Coupe “Addington Speed Shop”Bill Sworm – ’41 Willys Coupe “PT Willy”Jesse James – ’40 WillysCoup “The Gunslinger”Bill Caughron – ’48 Anglia “Golden Angel”Randy Tavoletti – ’41 Willys “Tavoletti and Gearhart Racing”

This is a point's race for our Mr. Gasket Super Series program. Race classes being contested this evening are: Mallory Super Pro, Hays Pro, Wiseco/Cycle Tech Super Bike and Accel Sportsman.
For anyone and everyone who got into racing purely for ‘The Fun of It’, the Classic is an event where fun is the rule of the day for both you and your family! With eight days of racing, camping, lottery prizes, bonus races, joke and limerick contests and random drawings... you can race or watch and have the time of your life! For most people, this alone would be worth the visit. But our team adds one more Spooktacular feature in the form of our famed Saturday: Dart Fright Night!
Our park teams up on Saturday, October 27, 2012 with a conglomeration of ghosts, princesses, witches, cheerful cartoon characters and creepy ghouls as we embrace the best of Halloween traditions! Even our facility is cloaked in the spirit via pumpkin carving contests, decorated pit spaces and terrifying trailers! The energy is contagious! Who-o-o-o-o-ose costume is most original, scariest, prettiest...or sexiest? There are so many you’ll have to decide for yourself!
As evening falls...thousand of children tremble with barely suppressed excitement in preparation for the treasured TRICK OR TREAT hour! Motorized vehicles are parked. Engines are silenced and pit lights dimmed just prior to sending the children on their trek from one trailer to another, where they will collect treats of all kinds. They know they’ll never reach all 1200+ trailers, yet they scurry along pit roads, stuffing their grocery bags full of goodies! Think about it - when YOU were a child, could you have reached even 100 homes during TRICK OR TREAT? YOUR children can when they TRICK OR TREAT with us!
We race just about anything here at Summit Motorsports Park, even motorhomes!
When Trick or Treat draws to a close, motors from the fastest vehicles yet to qualify roar to life. The adult party and costumes contest commence, and the fastest cars entered in the main event make their final qualifying attempt. It's the adult witching hour - now the fun is also mom and dad’s! In one of the most popular features of the entire week, Dart Fright Night lights up with our incredible Wheelie Contest, starring our bumper dragging, heart stopping ‘air show’! From the grandstands comes a unified gasp as raw power is applied in an effort to lob a vertical vehicular salute to Classic fans. Make no mistake, the drivers behind the wheel of these cars are... well...special.
The Halloween Classic isn’t just a race, it’s a happening! Often imitated, never duplicated - our Halloween Classic is the last blast of 2012. And it IS, a blast!
In early September, we will mail out the K&N Halloween Classic entry forms. If you do not receive mailings from Summit Motorsports Park and wish to be part of this fun filled week, then click here to join our mailing list. And specify you wish to receive a Halloween Classic brochure in the comment box. You must have an original registration form to pre-enter! We encourage racers to pre-enter for a number of reasons, one it expedites the entry process on Sunday October 21st and secondly the gambler’s races have limited fields.
A detailed event day schedule will be available at a later date.
